Reliable data doesn't start with analysis. It starts much earlier, with the careful, precise work of making sure every sample that enters the Edacious lab is handled correctly before any measurement even begins.
In this edition of Behind the Bench, we meet Paige Murphy, Lab Operations Specialist, the person who keeps samples moving through every stage of the process, from intake and prep to aliquoting (the process of dividing a larger sample into smaller, precisely measured portions) and partner lab coordination, as needed.
Paige describes her Edacious superpower simply: she is meticulous. Every sample that moves through her hands does so with intention. That attention to detail is the foundation that everything downstream depends on.
When asked to explain what Edacious does in five words or less, Paige puts it this way: "We uncover food's hidden story." It's a phrase that reflects both the mission and the method. The truth about what food contains isn't always visible on a label, and getting to it requires careful, rigorous work at every step.
That rigor shows up in ways most people would never think to notice. One of the most important steps in Paige's work is sample homogeneity, ensuring that a sample is properly mixed and uniform before it moves into one of many testing methodologies. If that step is skipped or rushed, the results won't accurately represent the product. A well-homogenized sample means the analysis reflects the reality of the whole food, not just a single piece of it. A poorly homogenized one can quietly undermine everything that follows. It's the kind of detail that rarely gets recognized, but it's exactly what makes every Edacious result trustworthy.
Outside of the lab, Paige channels that same creativity and care into baking breads, cookies, and anything with chocolate chips. She also sews, embroiders, and designs stationery. And every day, she gets outside for a walk or hike.
Paige's role may not always be the most visible, but it is essential, and one that our customers rely on. She is proof that the quality of verified nutrition data is built one careful step at a time.

Behind the Bench is a series spotlighting the Edacious team members whose work underpins how food quality is measured, interpreted, and communicated. It highlights the care, collaboration, and rigor behind the data long before insights reach the outside world.
At Edacious, "the bench" represents more than a physical space. It's where science, data, and people come together. This series focuses on the individuals behind that work. Those whose expertise and care shape how food quality is understood, trusted, and acted upon.
